ughh, why do people on the internet like to over exaggerate and say 'black holes' will be created and getting paranoid over nothing. no offense torchi0, but this title 'black hole machine' is a prime example, i mean making black holes wasnt even the purpose of the lhc =.=
the black hole problem is more a mumbo jumbo reporter story then an actual problem. If the thread was so big, they wouldn't have built the machine in the first place.
I'm not sure about this one. Hypothetically, if it were to discover the activities and pattens of nature, then why would the scientists continue work on it if nature could possibly cease to exist. Their actions would be contradicting their desires. Before this thread, i had never heard of an LHC. So i'm still skeptical about the whole idea of it entirely.

Heh, i don't care if that thing can actually create black holes or not but if it can and will create some, i will join the *STS Squad and make them pay. I am still young to pass out cause of someone's stupid brain :P

Altough, they didnt knew what to except from the tests so...
Hmm... I've actually been to CERN once and seen the old setup called LEP. It collided electrons and it's antiparticles positrons. It was a huge success! This new LHC will collide protons and/or ions and produces alot more energy. In the old LEP collider the energy released when the two beams collided was of the same order as the energy released when a fly hits your window... The thing about the formation of a black hole is that black home loses it's energy by so called Hawkings radiation i.e. at the event horizon virtual lepton-antilepton pairs will be born. The other lepton falls back into the hole but the other one escapes. This is due to the uncertainty principle arising from quantum mechanics. To conclude the formation of the virtual pair requires energy and that energy is taken from the black hole. So... if there will be black holes born they will die instantly. And... even stars size of our own sun don't produce black holes (instead they usually turn into neutron stars)... how about that energy huh? The thing is that they wont take out the full power at once. Of course they will test it over and over and over... and increase the power slowly. I'm excited to see if they will discover the Higgs boson or/and supersymmetric particles.
That was alot to say in a post serafi, you just might rival LUCKY someday...call me skeptcial, but i smell plagiarism in there ^^. But back to the matter at hand, what will it hurt if the thing black holes us anyway? So everyone dies, w/e its a hell alot better way kill us all than alot of other things like, mass epidemics for one. Just be an optinist ^^. Call me insensitive but I really couldnt care less whether its safe or not. Imma go get me some Mary Jane now =]]]]]]
It actually came from my own head since i'm physicist. If a stable black hole was born, it would gather matter so slowly that we wouldn't maybe even notice it... the thing is that we wouldnt notice the black hole without precise measurements since only an outside observer can do that. What I'm saying is that we could still live long constantly "falling" into the black hole... It's not like we die instantly if it is born. I must say this goes far beyond my understanding but I think this is the general idea.
