Does welfare system really work?
Just curious what people's thoughts are about a public welfare system. Public aid etc.... Not related to any one specific country but what do you think the advantages or disadvantages of it are ?

So, people who can;t be bothered getting off thier butts get paid?..
Obviously there are primary cases where it is very helpful.. ie single mums who just cant work...
BUT..
I have experience in this, as I was living with an old gf and we did nothing but have.. *fun for 6months, and we got paid with welfare benefits or the like..
good for me, but whos paying?
Normal people who get up every morning and go to work (me, now)
Karma :P
But most people miss out on that fun period... so they are just pissed off.
I think all money systems like that should be reconsidered or much stricter.

i agre with feva and i think more job training for people on welfare should be ofered and not welfare term limits.

agreed, welfare should be more of a hand up, not a hand out. needs to be more like it was during the depression, with the WPA and the like.( and no i wasn't there, heard all the stories from my father and grandfather ) Even single mothers should have to work for their welfare, even if its babysitting kids for other single mothers on welfare so they can work.

I have seen welfare benefactors on tv.. stupid kids who live on the streets, could be in share housing but would rather spend the cash on booze and occasional drugs..
been on welfare for 2 years+..
